Thrift Haul: Rare Vintage Treasures From Florida Flea Markets to You!

It's been incredibly hectic behind the scenes for Thrift Core. Exciting new developments are in the pipeline, and I'll be writing more about these changes in detail during the week. I did manage to miraculously fit in a well-missed flea market trip amid the chaos. Here are some of my bountiful finds:

These gorgeous autumn hued liquor decanters are my favorite find of the week. We have Canadian geese, quail, and wild turkeys etched on the glass. Along with rams in the mountain, ruining the avian theme but still looking like crowning gem of any playboy's bar or the manliest of man caves. I'm selling them for $12.00 each.

Then we have this humble vintage handmade pottery caterpillar. I can't help but pair him with books and he has been dubbed, The Book Worm. Fun for your bookshelf, I'm letting him go for $8.00.

These go with my growing Best in Children's Books collection. The illustrations within are gorgeous. I must make time to sit down and read them all before selling them.

It's rare to find salt and pepper shakers like this in perfect shape. Both even have their stoppers at the bottom. I was going to sell it for $12.50.

Next we have a kitschy little dog coin bank and China Doll Beans vintage cookbook. Selling the dog for $6.00 and the little book for $3.00.

This is not my usual style but the price was right, so I snagged it. I'm selling it for $6.00. I believe it's a match holder? Even though it's oddly painted with a sewing bunny motif.

Wait, did I already name the decanters my favorite find? I forgot about this charming little music box, I've been after it from the same seller for a while. He finally gave in to a lower bid for it. It's a Schmid Japan music box, I haven't been able to find another like it online. It plays the midi to "Sukiyaki," or as it's known in Japan, "Ue O Muite Arukou." The midi brings back 90s nostalgia for me because of the many remakes of it that were popular at the time.

You've gotta watch the video to appreciate the full beauty, it'll charm the pants off of you! I'll enjoy it sitting on my dresser until it sells.

I can't possibly keep it all! Everything in my thrift haul posts is FOR SALE. E-mail me if you're interested in anything you see! I also host daily deals this blog (the haul post prices are lower than normal) and on Facebook and Twitter.

What did you find this weekend?

  1. Those decanters are hilariously awesome, and the music box is so cute! My puppy had been running around playing with his toys, and then when I played the video he stopped, tipped his head to one side, and just listened to the music... it was like magic!

    1. Thanks for the invite and sharing the cute story about the dog. I should play the music box when the cat is rowdy and see how she reacts ;)

    1. Yep, a few people have told me it's likely a scissors holder. Makes more sense than matches!

  4. Sweet finds as always Van, I particularly like the caterpillar and books.

I found (finally) a set of three retro floral cook pots for three dollars. They're staying with me (I did a post on them) they aren't leaving my kitchen........NO WAY.

    1. Those pots are gorgeous, I can see you hesitance to sell those. I've been selling a lot of my personal collections but can't let go of my colorful tiki cups...yet...

  8. I'm not being picky, just thought you would like to know;the decanters have Canada geese not Canadian (they are not citizens of Canada) and what you called a quail is a ring necked pheasant.
BTW all your treasures are great. Here in the Pacific Northwest flea markets have higher prices than the thrift stores. Funny how different things are from region to region.

  9. Nah, I wouldn't call corrections picky. Thank you for helping me sound less ignorant next time. It is odd how venues will differ in price from region to region. Most of our flea markets are junky romps where you have to dig from the low-priced vintage treasures.

  10. I've heard of this before, perhaps you were the one who pointed it out last time since I've found a haul of these books before? These books didn't have volume numbers I could find (yet) so I'm not sure if I have the magic book(s), but thank you for sharing the info! I will investigate deeper.

  11. You always find the coolest stuff!

  12. I was going to say the same thing. I'm sure a little research will turn up more info. Somewhere I have mine from when I was a kid (scribbled in from when my sister was born & my mother decided anything of mine was fair game for a sibling 10 years younger -- hence the loss of my original Barbie, Midge, Francie, & Twiggy ): I do still have some of the original outfits though!) I wonder if they were reproduced as I clearly remember there being volume numbers. Unless I'm thinking of the collections of stories that belonged to my father when he was little? Hmm... Now I'll be on a hunt to find where the heck I put all that stuff! Having a house is both blessing and bane, as there is stuff everywhere that needs to go!

  13. I'd love to know what your volumes look like if you can find them!

  14. Love the Bookworm & the music box. I'm from FL originally & seeing all of your treasures so makes me want to do a road trip home and hit some of my favorite flea markets! Can you tell me if you've sold the music box yet & if not, how much?
