Thrifty Collections: Thrifted Vintage Halloween Decor Collection

Days shorten. A multi-faceted color blitz of fall foliage dazzles. Pumpkin patches spontaneously materialize. Well, it's hot enough for a pool party and the green tree leaves show no signs of changing here in North Florida....but no matter! It's my horror loving soul's favorite time of the year.  I keep most of my vintage Halloween decor (thrifted, of course) out year round. Behold their beauty!

This plastic owl pumpkin was a lucky thrift store find, it came in it's original packaging! It comes out every October.

My mom let me have this adorable ghost candle votive she thrifted. I keep it on my nightstand all year, but move it to the living room every October. I love to light a scented candle under it while I work and craft.

I just found this matching witch votive at the flea market this week. I should list it for sale but I'm enjoying lighting it up in the living room along with my ghost!

I love the metallic paint finish, the owl on the back, and how the light shines through the pumpkins on both sides.

This little lady doll looks so much like a creepy voodoo doll! I can't wait to be evil and stuff it with pins- best pin cushion ever.

Honorable mention: I recently found this owl coin bank. The luminous green eyes! They strike fear into my soul and demand me to "Be Wise and Save"... or else!

What decorations to you pull out for Halloween? Do you make Halloween crafts? How much of your Halloween decor is thrifted?

  1. I love your stuff especially the owl pumpkin and I was wondering what you were going to do with that doll.A voodoo/pincushion doll sounds awesome.
I need to pull my Halloween decorations out this weekend, preferably when the four year old is occupied and can't follow me up into the attic.Catching Mr.No Fear during a mid-jump from the top of the stairs is scarier than any decoration I could ever have, lol.
BTW,I asked him what he wants to be for Halloween(it changes all the time) yesterday and he said a Captain America Dinosaur.I thought you'd get a kick out of that.

    1. Yes, Captain America Dinosaur is one of the best ideas I've ever heard of! :D I miss excitedly climbing up to my parent's attic for Halloween decor as early as September...

  4. This year I might paint some cardboard with glow in the dark paint, shaped like eyes, and stick 'em in my bushes. Other than that, we're more "fall decorators". I like to make new yarn and felt wreaths!

    1. I love the texture in yarn and felt wreaths. My favorite ones to make are simple rag wreaths: http://www.thriftcore.com/2010/09/halloween-wreath-easy-and-thrifty.html

  5. Great decorations! I am so sick of the cheap plastic Halloween stuff that floods the retail stores these days. Yours are the kinds that Halloween is all about. Absolutely darling and spooky at the same time.

    1. Thanks! Agreed, the vintage decorations are far more charming. I have raided Target's clearance of Halloween decor the week before/after Halloween though, great deals on some better designed stuff that most stores have...

  6. Those light up ceramic Halloween and Christmas Decorations never go out of style! My Mom has a Witch and 3 ghost one. I can't tell you how many times I have fixed it and it is still very cool!

  9. Ah we horror freaks have to stick together. Halloween and the entire month of October is my favorite time of the year. The weather. The movies. The candy and costumes. It's almost too good to be true. I'm going to be busting out my clearance-bought Halloween decorations quite soon. (And I also "decorate" using some of my favorite horror merch that I keep in my bedroom all year round...the Chucky dolls, the creepy porcelain dolls, the clowns, even my ventriloquist dummy). They're all gonna be hanging around the house on display soon. Muhahahaha

  10. Ahhhh make sure the zombie doll is locked up at night so it can't get you! (Seriously, I've seen real poppets -- also known as voodoo dolls -- and that one looks like it was one!) Halloween is my fav holiday, and also our wedding anniversary! We have a crazy amount of birthdays stuck in between the end of October and the end of the year so this is a fun time to just relax and not have to hustle and bustle with gifts, etc. Me, my husband, and my daughter are all within one month (the other 4 are extended family and if I add in friends, it expands to an additional 8 or so!) which includes Thanksgiving and Xmas so you can see why we let loose for Halloween. I often think we are the Addam's Family, as the decor stays out year round. Not all, just special pieces -- I love bats, ravens, skulls so have incorporated them into our decor. We usually do a big display, and I found some wonderful cheapoloa stuff at an estate sale this year that will help to make things even spookier (like a black light!) I started doing a bunch of "haunted halloween" posts, as well as a playlist, you might enjoy all the spookiness! XXX Jet
