Calendar DIY: Large Chalkboard "Desktop" Calendar

I know I'm sounding like a one-trick pony with the chalkboard DIYs I keep posting, but wait! This one can change your life! Complete this craft and you'll never have to buy a calendar again! I'm the type of person that must write my to-dos and notes and schedules on a big, tangible calendar. I normally make an exception to my Buy Nothing New rules and purchase one at this time every year (when the current year's calendars are super cheap!) but this time I wanted to be resourceful and use what I had to make my own. Here's what I did:

1) I painted a piece of spare wood with three thin coats of chalkboard paint. 2) I used my T Square and marked a dash every 4 inches across the top (7 total) and a dash every 3 inches along the left side (5 total) 3) I used the dashes as my guide to make my calendar's grids. I bought the mushroom tape in a 100-yen store while visiting Japan! 4) I left a big space along the bottom for taking notes and goals!

The chalkboard paint dried quickly, making this a fast and satisfying craft to complete. I've already put my chalkboard to work, marking goals for each day so I can get my lofty list of mid-year goals completed! You can switch out the decorative tape with the seasons and use crazy colored chalk to change the mood of your calendar. Have fun getting crafty!

What do you use to keep track of and accomplish goals? A calendar and notebook are important tools for me, I like to write it all down...

  2. Hey Van!! I love your chalkboard design....very cool! I am all for using what you have...it's a great motto to have. I personally use an old-fashioned day planner to write my weekly appointments, etc., and for daily goals I use a list-type of notepad on my kitchen counter. I enjoy having a small daily list and getting the chance to mark out the chores as I go. It's nothing fancy, but I am consistent and I am a huge creature of habit! Also, something I have come to realize is that I am one of those very strange people who actually relaxes by keeping busy! I am always doing something!! I can't stand to sit still!!

    1. I'm the same way, I love the tangible quality that comes with crossing items off of a to-do list, and I "meditate in motion." I always have to be doing something!

  3. This is great! I use a big calendar that I hang on the side of the fridge. I am still very much a put it in writing person. ie. no electronic calendar :)

    1. Saaame here, I'm a pedantic list-maker and note-taker. Gotta physically write it all down.

  6. Some need ladders to work with electrical connections. Before starting, you should be sure that you can safely manage these seemingly simple activities.slime video
