Epic Thrift Wish List: What Are You Looking for at the Thrifts?

I've purged, sold, and downsized, and now it's time for the best part...refilling the gaps! The apartment is looking seriously empty and my inventory is (thankfully!) dwindling. It's time to get back to the vintage hunt full force after a thrift hiatus. This is my Epic Thrift Wish List!

1) VINTAGE ART Especially metal signs, anatomy/science posters, and colorful bold pieces for impact. Source
2) KAWAII MOD: Only the boldest, kawaii-est, swinging 60s Asian and non-Asian neon goodness. Source
3) HUGE ROBOTS: I need plenty of huge robots for decor and projects. And toys in general! Source
4) CREDENZAS: I'd love a mod credenza for a TV stand and another as a hallway table. Source
5) MOD LAMPS: One for my desk and a matching set for my bedroom. Source
6) NIGHT STANDS: It would be nice to have a MATCHING set for a change. I've never had 'em. Source

My roommate and I were going to "splurge" on a cheap retail one since my ONE couch isn't enough when guest drop in, but I decided to hunt for a used one instead in case my Yuko Cat gets claw happy. No point in destroying a new one! I'd love any like the three beautiful ones above from Urban Outfitters.

I have a lot of toy-themed branding and art to play with, so more toys is a must. How awesome is it that I can officially say I get payed to look for and photograph toys?! The set above are Shogun Warriors, they're huge, at least two feet tall.

Beautiful room all-around, but my obnoxious orange arrow points to my heart's desire, a white shag rug. (Image Source.) I'm 'a hunting for area rugs to define spaces, protect the floor, and just warm up the space. Post-purging it's getting quite sterile in here.

What's on your thrift Wish List? Whether for resell or keeps, do share! I also want picture frames for my Batman/Dragon Ball Z calendar pages, small furniture to paint, and lots of cloth napkins to sell...

  1. Love that last room you showed. As a matter-of-fact, I had a rug very similar to that ten or so years ago. It was a remnant ftom Mednards-- pretty cheap back then. Forty bucks or so. When I thrift, I always gravitate to 1960s housewares and decor. Love the designs!

  2. I've been trying to keep my thrifting to a minimum but I have been looking for interesting print ties and comic strip collections in digets. I have nearly 30 classic peanuts ones now and I can't help but grab all that i see

    1. 30 classic peanuts is quite a feat. You always did have good luck for scoring comics.

  4. I usually look for clothing and accessories. If I had a bigger room I would look for furniture as well, but maybe I can do that after I move.

    1. I'm not allowed to get clothing 'til I hit a weight loss goal, can't wait to play with the wardrobe. Accessories would be fair game, though.

  5. I haven't been going thrifting as much lately, but I'm still waiting to find the perfect quilt. Something with lots of bright colors that's soft from a bunch of washings. Whenever I see someone who has a quilt like what I want I ask where they got it, and inevitably the answer is yard sale or thrift store. I'll find one of my own one of these days...

    1. I'm sure you'll find one, they're not too uncommon. Hard to find the "perfect" one, though.

  6. We are in the midst of a house overhaul. We're re-painting, restoring furniture, purging other pieces, clearing space and filling it again with much desired pieces. Big on the wish list is a new to us Eames style buffet and starburst lock or our dining room. You know if you've lived all the way over the other side of the wold near me, I'd share my frames with and give to you. We have a friend who a framer and we get all the old frames from people going in to update their frames. So we get loads of them to repaint and spruce up for projects.

    1. Aw, thanks for the sentiment anyway Trudie. :) I have a stack of frames in the closet but none fit calendar pages.

  7. On my thrift wish list: a vintage buffet sideboard that I can use as an entertainment center, a yo yo quilt, and a real katana sword(hey if I'm going to dream, dream big).I recently crossed a big item off my thrift wish list- a sturdy metal patio table with four comfy chairs.I walked into Goodwill and a guy was pulling it out on a cart with a price tag of $59.99.I told him not to even put it on the floor.I love it...it's going to get alot of use this summer.Yeah for right place, right time.

  8. Love the idea of using a mod credenza as an entertainment stand. I'm going to be looking to a few of the same things. Biology posters (did you see my Lamprey poster?!), lamps for the booth, and a few pieces of furniture to redesign. Probably been watching too much Flea Market Flip... o_0

  9. I desperately want a pair of mid century side/end tables. A pair like the one in your pic would be perfect! I did find one cute mid century nightstand but it's too big to put next to our sofa, so it stands on its own.

By the way, if you're looking for mod-look lamps, check out Ross. Once in a while you can find really nice ones for under $30. :-)

  10. Dragonball Z calendar pages...I'm intrigued. My daughter has been obsessed with dragonball since she was about 4 years old (she's 8 now). We even dressed up together one halloween. She was Goku, I was Bulma (mom version). :)
