Things I Didn't Buy at the Thrift Store: Pirate Thrift, Pillage and Plunder |
Pirates eat rocks and shit gunpowder. Given the choice between rotting alive from scurvy or eating an orange a Pirate barks, "Yar, pass the meat 'n rum and be quick about it!" Who could resist a thrift store with pirate branding?! Pillaging is the perfect analogy for the thrift hunt.
Pillage & Plunder Thrift & Retro Shop started in a tiny box of a building in St. Augustine, Florida. The small box was replaced with a larger, more traditional shop further back in the same lot. After perusing their new digs I was impressed, as always, with the selection of mod, retro goods. I went home with a few pieces for sale from their "dollar box" out front, and left the rest behind. I love the shop, but their retro goodies were out of a reseller's price range:
This is what you see when you first walk in. It's organized, quaint, and filled with colorful vintage finds. More curated than the average Thrift Store, but not at the level of a vintage shop or boutique.
All the pretty Japanese things tempted me! I love these three items staged on top of a beautiful retro ash tray.
Love the glasses here, and how everything's arranged in the shelves.
More cups and trays to tease my cup 'n tray fetish. Beautiful!
And a perfect suitcase to tease some more.
I love the mugs, pitcher, and duck, too!
I would have loved to hang these gorgeous Japanese style cross-stitched pieces in my bedroom. I picture them looking nice on either side of a bed above matching nightstands.
This doctor's bag (I'm assuming, anyone else have a lead on this) has a lot of character!
I love these vintage smalls with chains attached, they're hard to find in good shape like this!
And I love everything in this shot, especially the mushroom.
And the favorite thing I didn't buy is this gorgeous squirrel wall-hanging, very whimsical and cute.
What have you left behind at the thrift store lately? What's tempting you in these photos? So many goodies...

Birthday Relaxation at a St. Augustine, Florida Antique Bed and Breakfast |
We usually feel older and wiser with each year that passes after our birth. I turned 26 today, but I feel 21! When I worked for the man I felt stressed, weighed down, older. Working for myself is overwhelming, but it's a weight off my soul! I still feel like I'm "working," but it's work that suits me perfectly. It's my passion. This Saturday BF forced me (No stops at Thrift Stores, my big SLR camera stayed at home) to take a break from work and took me to a Bed and Breakfast in my favorite proverbial playground, St Augustine, Florida; 45 minutes south from us and the oldest city in the USA. I love it because it's a little piece of Europe in America, it reminds me of growing up in Italy.
The Bed & Breakfast (Carriage Way Inn) with the inviting scent of freshly baked brownies in the dining room, cozy rooms, traditional decor, and unlimited coffees, teas, soft drinks, and wine was a comfortable retreat, but now I'm ready to get back to work! Today I'm thrifting in St. Augustine, taking hundreds of pictures for future posts, and cleaning the house! When cleaning the house is a decadent treat I want to sneak my teeth into more than birthday cake, maybe I have grown up. Just a little...
How do you like to celebrate your birthday? As long as a little cake is involved I'm happy...

Thrift Haul: Vintage Treasures from St. Augustine |
Did you go an adventure this weekend? Saturday I explored my favorite city, St. Augustine. On the way to the beach I hit up all my favorite thrifts, yielding some lovely treasures. 'Twas a lovely full day of hunting, beaching, and bar hopping in the evening. Like a true thrift-geek, the highlight of the weekend is the vintage finds!
Barbara, who sells a huge variety of vintage in a favorite hidden gem thrift shop (I've written about here and here) gave me this set of vintage cups (coffee cup sets, I believe) for $5.00. I love the wood grain and the colors!
This cute animated owl couldn't be left behind, even for the lofty price of $10.00. The style reminds me of cartoons from the 20s, and I love the wink. I was going to sell it but he's winking at me from the fridge and I like it.
I have more cookie jars than a person who doesn't eat cookies needs...but he may be here to stay!
Barbara let me have this teapot for free and when I told her I'm always hunting for boat art, she also let me have the vintage nautical boat art piece pictured below!
Look closely and you'll see hallmarks of a nautical scene. A setting sun, a small boat on the horizon, billowing clouds. I love the message, and how the boat is so small in the composition, eclipsed by the sea and the words. Every time I look at this I'll remember to continue embarking on random adventures!

What did you find on your vintage hunt this weekend?
