Thrift Haul: Typewriters, Coffee, and Owls. Vintage Perfection.

This year I want to write, read, create and learn my ass off. Expanding my skill set invigorates me, and a fresh new year is a perfect jumping off point. I feel like this haul post has a nice combination of quiet, studious beauty:

This Smith-Corona powder blue typewriter in its black case is gorgeous to use and display in your home. It weighs a ton and would be hard to ship, so I see myself putting this in my Southern Crossing Antique Mall booth.

I absolutely love writing on a typewriter, but I have a vintage heirloom one of my own use, so it won't be too hard to let go of this beauty.

I found this Terrestone by Orzeck Ware, MA owl at the antique mall while I was switching out merchandise. It reminded me of stout, elaborately painted clay owls my mom bought back from Mexico. I already have him listed on Etsy, but let me know if you'd like to buy it directly from me. I'll give you a discount.

This beautiful Pyrex coffee pot was a kind gift to resell from BF's mom.

If you'd like to buy it from me at a discount before I list it on Etsy, let me know!

The typewriter folded up at the apartment, waiting to go to SOCO!

I resisted the urge to find beautiful new merchandise at the flea market yesterday morning. I confessed that I'm overwhelmed with merchandise and still trying to carve the new direction for my brand. I may turn Monday posts into "random showcase" posts where I offer amazing deals or just show off some gorgeous vintage I have in cabinets that you've never seen.

But as you can see in the photo above, I've been busy updating my Etsy shop! Feel free to check it out, I have plenty of good deals available if you want to shop, and just lots of pretty vintage to look at if you just want to look around. I think I've finally added all of the books I've been meaning to resell! Many of the book recently listed have been languishing in my bookshelf for years!

What did you find this weekend?

  1. I feel your pain as far as resisting the urge to stock up. For a while there I had way too much so I stopped looking (kind of). Now I feel like I don't have enough so I'm a little stressed. So hard to balance. Your shop looks great!

  2. Thanks Melissa! Yep, it's a tough balance. But I have PLENTY to list on Etsy and stock in my booths in the meantime. I can afford to wait it out. The finds will be a'waitin' for us when we return.

  3. Good Morning: I found a Wacoal 38G Bra, a kid's Backyard Safari Vest (really cute), square dance top and a really neat eyeglass case that holds eyeglasses on one side and the other side has a place for contact lens case & drops for traveling. I too have things to list, so limit myself, but enjoy the excursions & entertainment, plus it's cheaper than other vices. Have a great week all. lanasdream eBay.

    1. I believe I'll make my return when the merchandise room is fully organized and everything is listed online, perhaps? :) Hmmm...until then, holding out on thrifting. Thrift hauls may stop for a while...

  4. Van, I have listed my vintage typewriters on Etsy and they sell well. Shipping for parcel post is usually around $25. My customers have been willing to pay it and I haven't had any problems receiving them. If you have a box large enough, I would encourage you to list it on Etsy. Typewriters really do sell well there.

  6. Hi Van! Question: Does the ribbon on the typewriter have decent ink? Could I use it right away if I bought it? What is the selling price? I have found and sold many manual versions, but I haven't come across an electric one in quite a while. I would like one for personal use. Thanks!

    1. I'll check on the status on the ribbon soon and get back to you. I'd be willing to sell it to you for the low price of $45. I was going to list it on Etsy for $60.00. I love the piece and would keep it for personal use too if I didn't already have one :)

    2. I've checked it out, works perfectly. Ink ribbon is intact, not perfectly black and bold on the text but it's working beautifully and looks like it has plenty of juice left.

    3. Thanks Van. I will pass at this time. I might see one on the trail...my daughter has an electric one, not old per se, but it works great. Good luck with e-bay!

    4. Thanks Carla, good luck on the hunt. I think I'll list this one on Etsy and sell how it sells.

  7. I love your alligator head. You can't get those over here in Canada, at least, not that I have ever seen. My aunt smuggled one across the border once, though.

  10. Van, I always love your enthusiasm ("...learn my ass off!") :). I, too, am trying to slow down on the thrifting, lest my basement explode from the amount of unlisted inventory I'm storing there. Good luck to both of us! (Great typewriter, BTW!)

    1. Good luck indeed! I need to get into the stock room and get cracking. If I had a basement to fill I'd be in trouble...

  17. Helpful share for everyone.Typewriters are intricate machines—complex little boxes that require an abundance of ingenuity to produce. They are often beautiful, and they occasionally find wildly imaginative ways to conduct the delicate dance between the hammers and the keys...
