Thrift Haul: Flea Market Haul of Smalls, Kawaii Critters, and Polaroid Goodness

Damn you flea market! I went in search of lettuce and came home with an adorable assortment of smalls to sell instead! Right when I wanted to reduce my small hoard in general. I'm not beating myself up about it too much, though, quite pleased with all I allowed myself to buy this week.

My new retro goodness was making itself at home on the desk area, inspiring me while I list and work on blog posts.

I love how my new 1940s-50s era kawaii collectibles look in the vintage shadow box I scored last time. (See the shadow box on Etsy).

I try to resist smalls but each of these had such large beguiling eyes, they had to come home with me. They're rendered in that perfect 40s cartoon retro style.

I also scored a few owls! They don't sell like they used to but I still love 'em. Check out the bronze owl, the chalkware owl duo, and the tiny owls by clicking the links on Etsy!

My woodland friends are chilling on Etsy, too. We have the bunny, the owl, the doggie with red eyes that stare into your soul, and the fawn.

I bought a bag of minis just to be the owner of that glorious pink seahorse. He's gorgeous! An outstanding beauty! See seahorse and mermaid on Etsy.

The bag of minis came with many birds, too. See the seagull, blue birds, canaries, tropical birds and mallard set on Etsy. I'll have to go back and take better photos and write better descriptions as soon as I can. It's nearly midnight and I'm not too coherent at the moment! I'll be back, birdies, you deserve better!

The little bag of randoms also came with a couple of piggies, both hiding out on Etsy.

And I finally scored a beautiful rainbow striped polaroid land camera, 'twas so fun to  photograph this iconic piece. She's awaitin her new home on Etsy.

Group and Daily Deals? I'm cleaning out my merchandise stockpile so daily deals are returning to social media. Follow me on InstagramTwitter, and Facebook for crazy low deals of gorgeous vintage. I also make deals on Etsy items with readers and often do group deals, so send me an e-mail if there's anything you see and want!

  1. I love the big-eyed owl! He's too cute! And speaking of cute, I want your cat!
I wish we had good flea markets here. The only flea markets I've been able to find are basically filled with new, mass-produced, super cheap clothing and junk. No great second-hand finds at all. It's sad.

    1. We have those types of flea markets too. Some appear that way on the outside but you can dig for vintage.

  2. I agree with you that smalls are hard to sell. But I like them anyhow because they are good props for my photographs. I list them, but its not a big deal if they sell or not, usually I don't pay too much for them and they serve a good use while I have them. I have this pair of small garden gnomes that are so great in my pics, I know they will sell soon, they seem to be popular, I will miss them dearly.

    1. At least they don't take up too much room until they sell. I didn't think much of the little birds but there's a lot of interest in them! So weirdly unpredictable, this smalls business.

  3. Fun stuff! Like the birds. Hey, just thought I would mention that I sold the same style camera earlier this year on Etsy for 34.00, and I did not know if it worked. I think yours is underpriced, but that's just my opinion. Those are cool, aren't they?

  4. Flea markets in the NE are full of both new junk and vintage goodies. I like smalls because they take up so little space. As far as selling I'm finding that Deer and Rabbits are selling better. I think letter print boxes are also making a come back and the smalls fit nicely in them. We have two that we are filling. Love your finds. Eyes say it all.

  6. I'm in an occasional shop in Minneapolis (we're open 4-5 days/month). We have to have furniture -- but it's often the smalls that pay the rent!

    1. Same here, especially of that particular type of retro 40s cartoon appeal.

  10. Doesn't it seem like when you tell yourself not to buy anything, that's when you find a ton of great stuff? It's happened to me a few times! Anyway, I love the deer and the mermaid/sea horse! They'd be perfect for my bathroom!

  13. that droopy dog is hilarious! i know that lettuce is more nutritious than a haul of smalls but this lot is just as healthy in my opinion :)

  14. My favorite is the pink seahorse. That hound dog with the big eyes looks like he's had too much caffeine or something - lol!

Did you notice your kitty cat is licking his lip in the last photo? Too cute!

My local Salvation Army had a 3-hour fine jewelry sale this morning. It was a special sale, and you had to get a number and wait in line. First time I've ever attended anything like this at a thrift store. I took a gamble and bought a vintage Taxco Mexican sterling silver bracelet for $70. That is one of the highest prices I've ever paid for something to resell. Hoping to get at least $150 for it.
