I Found a Naked Lady Photograph in a Flea Market Book. Wanna See?

Isn't she lovely? I'm still in the midst of home and merchandise purging sessions. I was flipping through books from the flea market when this vintage photograph, a re-creation of Eve in the garden with a nude model holding an apple, daintily flipped out of the book.

I remembered she likely came from the vendor who still hosts my sought-after "golden genitalia" vintage kitschy wall-hangings. When I heard a flea market seller had these in stock I hunted him down to find them, but he's never bought them back to the market again. I'm on a brief thrifting hiatus for the rest of October while I get caffeinated and attempt to list every single vintage item for sale in my apartment on my Etsy Shop. (Hundreds of photos, ho! I need more tea!)

This photo is a fun reminder of why I enjoy the hunt so much. It really is junk culture anthropology, a scavenger hunt. You never know what you're going to find! (Lady Eve here will be listed on Etsy soon, but send me an e-mail if you'd like to buy 'er.)

What's the weirdest thing you've ever encountered at the thrift store or flea market?

  2. Oh my! Hope no minors are viewing today! I always think bras and underwear are weird items to be reselling-- if I was that destitute, I think I'd go without!

    1. I think the artful nudity displayed here is perfectly fine for minors. No different than anatomy books or classical Greek sculptures. Even as a kid I'd argue with the others in class about nudity being nothing to be ashamed of, haha ;D I agree, especially the undies is something that shouldn't be re-sold.

  3. Someone needs to shave that thing! Looks likes shes leg locking a tarantula! Haha . Actually that's a pretty cool find! Very risqué for the day. Nowadays someone would have blackmailed her and put it all over the internet and her life would have been destroyed! Good for this lady for being so liberated with herself!

    1. Haha! I knew that was coming but leg locking a spider is the perfect visual ;D I too love how natural it is- in more ways than one- and how relaxed she looks. I just thought of the horror that it did end up on the internet anyways!

    2. Now that I think about it, the big bush like that wasn't abnormal until perhaps let's say 1995? It's funny to think on human history and how up until a mere 18 years ago natural pubes were just fine, but now socially criminal. Though there are surely cultures throughout history that shaved too but I won't dig in that deep. ;) Or will I...

  4. OMG SHE'S NAKED! Just kidding.:) I did far to many life drawing classes to ever find the human body any more than what it is. I love she got creative! Is Found magazine still around or just in book form? This is perfect for Found!!

    2. Oh and I miss the hell out of figure drawing. There's a Dr. Sketchy's event this weekend that I'm excited to bust out the sketch book, camera and art supplies for.

  5. What a find! Nothing is off limits at a thrift store nowadays ;) would be fun to be surprised like that as long as the subject is not you or somebody you know haha. I wish I could add my own experience but haven't had any close encounters with the weird kind, maybe because I'm more of a "skimmer" shopper.

  7. I had seen fake (wooden) legs at a flea market one time.
I guess most things don't strike me as truly odd any more.

    1. Same here, once you've hunted for a long while it takes something truly weird to startle you. I've encountered lots of bed pans/chamber pots in the wild now that I think about it...lizard food...used lotions...used chapsticks...

    1. And kind of sad that flipping through Facebook photos has taken away the "community" aspect that was watching 35mm slide shows in the living room.

  10. Oh van. Yay. Is her face really blacked out? Or just you being kind? I am interested in owning this beautiful testimonial to free thinking. What are you asking?

    1. The blur wasn't intentional, this was taken in early morning insufficient light, but I liked that it protected her identity a bit and kept it. The actual photo is completely clear though the lighting on her face is a little on the dark side, you can see all her features. Was asking $15.00 for her, e-mail me at info@thriftcore.com with your zip code so I can calculate shipping (cheap, haha, so light) and send an invoice. Thanks Collette!

  12. The oddest thing I've found so far was an old wooden box. It was cool looking and pretty dusty as I was picking it up to look it over. I opened it and found a little plaque saying that the box contained the remains of someone's dear father and husband. I set it down and wiped my hands off really well, thoroughly creeped out that I probably had someone's ashes on my hands. And even more disturbed that someone got rid of their "beloved father and husband!" :)

  23. Something to think about when considering event photographers is event photography pricing. Event photography covers a wide range of photography services, thus the pricing for event photography services will vary depending on the type of event.whiten teeth in photoshop
