Freshly Curated: 1969 Playboys, Anchors, Totes and Other Groovy Flea Market Goodies

The hot humid air was on us a like a thick, velvet curtain this Sunday as I rushed through the flea market for some small wares. I followed my rules, resisting amazing retro glassware ('twas so painful) and came home with a few small sure-sellers. More on why my lots are smalls soon, first, the glorious scores!

First, this gorgeous belt buckle! Anchor-anything tends to do well, combine that with a belt buckle and you have a winner. --------->>> On Etsy

And I found yet another gorgeous travel case in great shape, always on the prowl for these, love 'em! They hold up so well and for a light-packer (like me, extra minimal) they're all you need for a one to two week summer trip. --------->>> On Etsy

[Nude Centerfold photo originally above, removed to protect the innocent. (See comments.) Sorry if I offended anyone. Nude photos are just a study to me like any other artwork.]

I recognize how creepster-old-guy-fetishizing-young-girls these magazines are but I absolutely love the history, art, advertising, graphic design, and photos in vintage (only vintage- new ones are boring) Playboys and the contrived perfection that is The Pin-Up. And babes. And boobs. These magazines (and ladies) are gorgeous! By the by science says women of this time were curvier in the right places naturally because of the more nutritious (un-mass produced) food. (Source. Makes me sad.)

They're already sold but I have a little time to read and scan them all! And look at these ads, sexy radio system. *wolf whistle*

I try to resist smalls and breakables these days but these squirrels too cute and attached to a little of the original packaging. And little squirrels do well for me. Sometimes I joke squirrels are the "new owl". --------->>> On Etsy

These aren't vintage but I'm a sucker for fish. Big time. They are my muse, especially tropicals like the ones above. They're still for sale if you'd like 'em of course. I think I'll hang them in my bathroom in plain view of the shower so I can imagine I'm bathing in the waterfall next to my straw hut in Hawai'i. Or maybe I should hang on to these until I'm 65 in my South Florida beach mansion with a 25-year-old pool boy to oogle... In short, I love fish.

My mom gave this to me after the flea market, it's dated from the 40s on the back, she said it belonged to her mother and gave it to me to sell! It has a big chip but a lot of personality! May be destined for Etsy or my antique mall booth soon.

I usually do well with these mid century modern snack tray coasters so I scooped up the set I realize this type goes in a chest of drawers but still awesome without it. --------->>> On Etsy

And this odd bronze mod amorphic-shaped sexy ash tray was sitting next to the anchor and had to come with me. Ash trays don't sell well but this one was small to store and intriguing. --------->>> On Etsy

I'm excited to be moving into a large antique mall booth next month, I have more than enough in this apartment to stuff it full. It'll be a great way to really establish my brand and finally put all my wares on display in one spot. 'Til then, so much stuff everywhere to price...

I know I always have to bring in fresh meat but damn. So. many. price tags. To write. So much stuff to re-shoot.

And boxes behind my computer chair right now. A couple in the bedroom. And even more... back to work with me! After a short reprieve in St. Augustine to regain my sanity. (For a laugh, here's all the merchandise I had stored in my kitchen after it was unearthed!)

Buy It. You Know You Want it.... All of these items will be listed online (or ebay or Etsy) soon (will update with links) if you'd like to buy anything you see PLEASE do e-mail me! Get it all away from me! Halp!

    1. That's life right now! It was worse before I corralled them into boxes! Now the rest of the place is tidy save for the boxes.

    1. The really did! I forgot to link a fascinating article about that, because meat was grass fed and food wasn't as mass produced they had better nutrition and hence, uh, nicely home grown assets. Damn them! Link here:http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/201206/eternal-curves

  3. I really wish you would have put the warning before you showed the Playboy photos. I was sitting next to my young daughter and she looked over right when I scrolled down. Thanks a lot.

    1. I was thinking to do so but then without kids of my own and no kid commenters I didn't consider someone would have their kid next to them while scrolling. I'll think more about covering breasts into the future. To me it was an artful nude study. Sorry for the offense, I hope you'll continue to read into the future. I'll be good. :D

    3. To be fair I did have one of the centerfolds up there (both breasts exposed) instead of the 2nd Playboy cover and back photo I have now and didn't put a warning.

  4. I love your blog!! Just had to get that out of the way. I currently have a booth at an antique mall in Tucson and I'm hoping to start selling on Etsy soon. Your blog is super helpful and inspirational and I can't wail until you publish your e-books!!
Good luck on your bigger booth - post pics ASAP! lol Is it rude of me to ask how much your mall charges? Is it by the square foot? I'm just curious as to the comparison with the one I'm at. I make rent there but as you well know it takes a lot more to make a profit (hence the reason I'm going to start Etsy soon)!
Also, how do you manage putting an item in your booth as well as on Etsy at the same time? Or don't you? Maybe I don't remember right- which is very possible these days! Anywho...
I have a lot more to say and questions to ask but I'll let you off the hook for now... Oh, I also have to work on major BRANDING and get my social media skills up to par- Dang this is hard work! But I love it!!
    Thanks for letting me ramble...

    1. Thanks Caryn, working on perfecting the eBook, please do check it out as soon as it's done. I don't believe they literally charge by the square foot at my mall, they tack on extra for the amount of wall space you get as well, little things like that. My space is going to be $169 or so, not too bad for a walk-in space. It's not as huge as some I'm jealous of online but it's a very high traffic mall so their prices aren't too bad at all.

    1. I just have a couple tucked into corners, not tooooOoo shabby, but I guess to my eyes that's extra tidy after having trashed the place super bad for the sake of work more than once.

    1. I run into them often, I'll send you a message when I score another one. That one was in gorgeous shape, I love using those things. Same here on old books/magazines. I can't wait to scan nearly every page of the Playboy magazines!

  11. sorry but who cares if a kid saw a boob it's YOUR blog perhaps if she's worried then maybe she shouldn't have screen time with her kid around?? just a thought--I for one don't care if they're are vintage boobs and I sue the computer when my kids are not up on top of me as do MANY parents

whatever--love the honest mess pictures--my house has been there!

    1. I can't wait until the mess is out of the way and into my larger booth. Home life will be much more pleasant, it was all neatly stashed away and now it's out and in the way. As for the boobs, I've seen since I nursed on them (haha) and throughout childhood, dunno, never thought of them as shameful or worthy of hiding myself..
