Thrift Haul: Fun Vintage to Use, Love, and Poke. With a Stick.

Anticipating moving dozens of boxes to my new apartment I "took it easy" at the flea market this Wednesday. Today's haul showcases Goodwill pound store scores that slipped through the cracks and very kind donations from Becca of The Vintage South from months back.

I found this antique scale the same day I posted that I wanted one on my Thrift Wish List. Great timing, right when I was about to give in and spend $16 on one in an antique store I resell in. This one is for sale, however, if a fellow reseller/collector is interested!

Groovy, baby! This mushroom jar jumped out at my from the flea market stall. It's quite large at about 11 inches tall. I would love to make someone a good deal on this colorful piece.

This Merry Mushroom butter plate is already in the mail and on the way to its new owner. I've been lucky enough to find many different bits and pieces from this set.

The vintage bowling bag came with ball and shoes. The ball is about 30 pounds and the shoes are about 12 inches long, no shoe size written inside that I can see. I always scoop up the bags whenever possible, I get many requests for them.

This is another pound store haul. I've been wanting to read Not Buying It : My Year Without Shopping since I wrote about it two years ago! Geek Dad and Create the Space will be fun, crafty reads, too!

These three books are from my friends yard sale. Some more personal reads. I lived in Italy for years so I absolutely love picking up quality Italian cookbooks. 50 Things You Can Do To Make Your Cat Adore You sounds like fun, too.

Oh books, books, books! Why can't I quit you!?

And cups! I can't quit you, either! I've had this buttery yellow set on hand for over a year, someone please, take it off my hands and help me with my harmful cup hoarding.

Behold how lovely they stack for you. (Just for you.)

The following goodies are part of massive and kinda donation from Becca. Thank you! These minty green cups are delicious. Like a peppermint patty. Cups can be delicious, I tell you! Can anyone identify these beauties?

I love the milky hue of these bright white Fireking mugs. Quite a lovely set!

And more wonderful Pyrex beauties to behold. Love the print on this set.

This set of vintage tumblers is my favorite donation from Becca, they are simply stunning! Again, info on these would appreciated if you have it!

Cute pyrex duo with a bit of flower detail, I love the green and yellow color combination.

These Gleam It silver polishing mitts are a perfect Time Capsule gem! The color and mod art is perfect and they're in perfect shape, likely never used! (By the way, Becca generously donated much more than this. I'll show off more as soon as possible!)

So many finds, so little time to get them sorted and listed online! Time to get to work cleaning, organizing, listing, and settling into a new space. We're going to say goodbye to the former Thrift Core headquarters on the blog this week. There will be a home tour of the new space as soon as I've settled in a bit :)

Remember, everything I post is for sale! Simply e-mail if you'd like anything pictured.

  1. Why do you constantly tease me with mushroom items! I collect them even though I shouldn't. Great haul. x

  2. "Harmful cup hoarding".....LMAO. Oh dang, can I relate to that. ESPECIALLY because I own that same yellow set...with saucers...and plates...and a platter! BAHAH! Though the contrast is bumped up because it is a mobile pic, you can see it here (I hope): https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/155686_1540369988915_1224871487_31362183_258958_n.jpg

Too funny (and not surprising at all!)

Moral of the story...someone should buy those yellow cups, because they make you feel happy when you drink out of them!

    1. They really are lovely to drink from. I'd be creatively satisfied opening a store that only sold cups, I really would. I love the designs and they're the perfect accessory for the tea-addicted.

  3. Oh I've never seen a butter dish in that Mushroom style. Very cool. Anything with mushrooms, I just adore. Hell I'd go for a mushroom toilet seat cover!

  4. I can't wait to hear what you think of Not Buying It. I thought it was awful. The author didn't even consider thrifting and spent the entire year figuring out ways to get away with breaking her pledge to not buy anything!

    1. You can't blame 'er, it's tough. I'm anxious to read about "buying nothing" from her point-of-view as a buy-nothing-new pledger. I'll have to write a review once I've devoured it.

    2. I couldn't go a week, I'm sure! I do know the difference between "needing" a Scooby Doo waffle maker from Wal Mart immediately, and knowing that I'll find one at a garage sale in a few months anyway!

  5. Hi Van! I went solo yesterday to the fleas and scored a few fun items...in fact, I've got such a stash set aside I'm taking this week off. Some of the things I found this weekend include a wagon wheel from India, two pieces of iron fencing from St. Augustine, a funky boat anchor, a Poloroid rainbow stripe instant camera (been hunting for one of those for a long time), a salesman's demo case, a wooden drying rack and a round train case...along with a few other small things. It was a great weekend and I'm ready to haul it all in!! Good luck on your move!! I love finding new places for my stuff!

    1. Damn lady, lucky you! I still have way too much stuff, dunno if I'm going hunting this week with all the settling in, unpacking, and organizing to do...

  6. It is so easy to have an obsession with cups! They usually don't cost that much, take up minimal space, and they are functional.
My main obsession is Pyrex bowls and casseroles, but I recently found a new obsession in Pyrex...the cups! Here is the start of my Pyrex cup collection: http://pinterest.com/pin/32791903506966076/

  8. Great finds! Love the "Merry Mushroom" stuff as well, I have the canister set. I had more pieces, but I have butter-fingers sometimes! (Okay, a lot.) I'd love to hear how you like the "Not Buying It" book, sounds interesting. Thrifting up here (NY) can be terrible, but I do manage to come home with something every time. This weekend my daughter was the lucky one -- at 12 she's a seasoned thrifter and always on the hunt for cool stuff. All I got was a cute 70's metal canister, they're always so useful! (Listen to me; "*all* I got", um like I need more? Ex-vendor, over 3 decades of collecting... nope, don't *need* anything!) XXX Suzanne
