What's on Your Thrift Wish List this Year?

I'm always on the hunt for the perfect kitschy vintage goods to resell, but I also have a personal wishlist to fulfill. I found some of the long-standing items on my former list like my vintage yellow kitchen cart, red-orange tool box, and full-length mirror.

Now I need to score the following:

[Antique Scale I have my eye on a similar one right now...]

1. Vintage Scale or Postal Scale: My scale only goes up to 2 lbs; upgrade imperative!

[Peekaboo Mod Side Table Holy Hell! Must find/make something fun like this! ]

2. Sexy Side Tables: Because my bedside table is patio furniture. Yep.

3. Mod Credenza: Because they are luscious, I tells you! I want one to sit my TV on.

4. Fancy Cookery: Quality knives, pots, blenders, and barware. Hey, I can dream!

5. Mod Curio Cabinets and/or Hutches: For craft/office supplies, files, and vintage stock.

Whatever I don't find I shall set to work to make for myself as I settle into my new space.

What's on your personal Thrift Wish List? I'd mention specific toys, comics, and records but we'd be here all day...

  1. I have two sources for cheap silk scarves and neither seems to have the slightest awareness of brand/designer names and their value. I'm going to score a vintage Hermes there one day for something like 75 cents. Watch me. :)

    1. I'm sure you will! I was trying to buy a sunny yellow kitchen cart from our local anthropologie for years (they wouldn't budge) and I finally scored a better one for a song. You just have to keep hunting.

  2. While the vintage postal scales have a great look, they are not very accurate and I would recommend getting a digital scale for actually weighing your packages. I used a vintage one for several years and finally had to cave to modern technology. I use an old stereo cabinet for my television stand - kind of the same premise but really doesn't have the storage like a credenza. Love the yellow dutch oven!

    1. I use a walmart bookshelf for my "TV-Stand" ;) You can kind of see that in the 7th picture down: http://www.thriftcore.com/2011/11/getting-house-together-and-organized.html

      Hey, it works!

I use a vintage scale and am always surprised by it's complete accuracy when I get to the post office, but I know I need to stop being cheap a buy a modern digital scale- it IS tax deductible after all :) Thanks for the expert tip!

(Oh, and I just found an antique scale a lot like the one pictured today)

You've got an excellent wish list, my friend. I didn't see Selena's posts, but I'm sure a mod credenza will show its pretty face around here soon!

  5. I too have a credenza on my list. It will be repurposed into an entertainment center.
An Eames lounge chair an ottoman are perpetually on my list, I am praying I find one as a trash pick, cause I can't afford to pay estate sale prices for this.
A small, round table for the kitchen. Current design with a smidge of mod.

    1. I'm always keeping my eyes peeled on the trash for cool mod bits, too. If I don't find authentic mod to turn into an entertainment center I'll build a custom one ;)

    1. If what I'm mailing comes in pieces I'll weight each thing separately (including box/packaging) and add it up. If it's all more than 2lbs I check at the post office when I send out the next batch of goods.

Yes, I must get a real digital scale ASAP and stop being a thrifty bastard!

  16. I've been looking for an old trunk for ages now b/c I am so picky about what kind of trunk I want - size, to re-do or a certain colour. It has to have that instant feeling of "this is it". I've come close on Kijiji but even then, nothing making me want to buy a given one. I almost do want to apologize to you b/c I did find a credenza this year. But believe me, it's well appreciated. :)
