Thrift Haul: Tiki Tray, Fire King, Creepy Clowns, and Retro Goodness

I hit up an Estate Sale for the first time in months recently! Combine that with some carefully selected antique mall and thrift store scores for some beautiful vintage that was too fun to photograph, arrange the house, and play with.

My kitchen item fetish was satisfied with these two pieces. The radish spoon rest and gorgeous tile go together perfectly. That food still life with a fish, cherries, boiled egg, onion, and beer stein is so appealing! ---> On Etsy

This pair of beautiful blue fire king mugs already has the most favorites out of the over 300 items in my Etsy shop. I've been using them every day for tea! They're beautiful stacked on the kitchen counter, or hanging out with my tiny gundam toy! ---> On Etsy

Something about these little figures called out to me. Not what I'd usually buy, but I have some fun plans for them, I especially love the lion and the white zebra.

And this illustration on thin wood, beautiful! It's a low carved relief with nice soft yellow/white/black/red color combination. So perfect for a study! It's hanging out on Etsy, I'd sell it for $15.00 on the blog. --> On Etsy

And I like mini-anything and was happy to discover this lighter shaped like Winston Filters cigarettes  I'm selling it for $5 if anyone's interested.

These clown art prints by Dianne Dengel are colorful and expressive...and just bit a little bit creepy for the clown-phobic among us! They're attached to one long sheet.

What do you think, should I sell it that way or cut the pages and frame them individually?

Next we have this nifty gold nautical lighter sporting a ship's steering wheel. Selling it for $7 to anyone who's interested. It would make a sweet gift to a former sailor or just any boat lover. If you don't smoke, use it to light candles and incense like me ;) I use a bar-b-q lighter that's far less stylish!

I fell in love with this tiki-style mid century modern tray when I saw it near my booth at Southern Crossing Antique Mall. It's perfect for arranging still lives, serving people, and holding booze on your groovy tiki bar! ---> On Etsy

  2. Great haul!! I've always loved finding Fire King cups....but I've never found ones that are in good enough condition to justify the price! So picky :) lol

    1. It's good to be picky. I almost bought a gorgeous orange/red gradient one this week that look like a flame but it was a bit scuffed. :P I'm a sucker for them, they are so beautiful.

  3. Awesome finds! You should do well with all of it! Personally, I would leave the clowns like they are and let the buyer decide what they would like to do with them.

    1. I get that every time I bring some clowns home ;) I'm not a fan myself but something about their kitsch appeal suits my brand nicely.

    1. Only one of the tiki glasses is authentic vintage, I bought the others over time at a kitsch shop I love in St. Augustine Florida called "Materialistic" :) They are reproductions made in 2001. They bring me back to happy memories skipping school or college classes to frolic in sunny St. Auggie.

  9. What the heck?? ^^

My parents used those exact blue Fire King cups every day of my growing up years (which, by the way, was in Jacksonville, or Mayport to be specific). How to fun to see them!

    1. Haha, yes the spammers have been getting through with greater ease lately. Usually they're filtered out. That's so cool to know your family's history with the cup and how close that was to me. Could they have ended up in an estate sale in Riverside, Jacksonville, overlooking the St. John's river somehow ? :)

  13. Love the Bird Brain! I am pretty sure you picked it up from my booth at SOCO! We are the little booth in the back by the dealer door #704. We have only been at SOCO for 3 weeks. So far so good! This is our first stab at re-selling and I must say we are having fun. We just started thrifting a few months ago! Actually reading your blog inspired us to set up shop! Hope to meet you someday!

    1. Haha, I wondered if the curator of that booth would catch me on the blog! I love your booth, beautiful selection and curated nicely. Come swing by booth #4504 and say "hi" if I'm around. Glad I inspired you to set up shop, I'm passionate about helping others find their niche :) Gotta try to see if it's right for you.

  14. Thanks! I am Laurie and my partner in crime is Courtney. You have met her, she bought a brass anchor hook from you in person few months ago. One of my favorite parts of the booth is setting up and curating and putting things together. I am a designer by day so I guess it makes sense. Courtney thinks I am nuts because I obsess over arranging the booth! We hope to get a bigger booth one day to have more flexibility but we are happy for now. I can tell you are really passionate about what you do and that is inspiring! Hope to see you around SOCO one day!

  16. I think the Fire King Kimberly mugs are so ugly, but I can't resist them in that colour. I never knew they existed in that colour until I saw them in the dishwasher on some really boring movie. The BIRD BRAIN thing rules.

    1. Mugs were among the first things I sold online, too. Funny, you can barely sell them for anything in antique malls unless they're extra special, but you can earn a lot for them online.

  21. My grandparents had those mugs in orange! My parents think they are godawful, probably because they were there when they went out of style (same with their opinions on high-waisted jeans), but I hope to have them passed down to me someday!

    1. I love those same mugs in orange! I joke that I know I'll love something if my mom hates it. Generations before us often dislike the groovy 50s-70s things we crave because they liked vintage things before their time during that era, too! And like you said, they were there when they went out of vogue.
