Thrifted Collections: Japanese Cups and Bowls

I'm a sucker for Japanese design. Sometimes I feel like I have as built-in magnet for it, I often discover that perfect item that's Made in Japan. This collection of Japanese plates, bowls, (and one plate), have been gathered over the years from thrift stores and yard sales.

I use my pair of orange bunny cups every day for my green tea! I used to use the colorful fish sauce bowls to hold small office supplies (thumbtacks, etc.) but I would really like to display them. Do you have any creative display ideas for these tiny bowls?

  1. Hey! I have that third bowl down; the kitty one! I saw it and just had to have it. I've a small set of 2 other Japanese bowls in this sort of kawaii style, too. Love yours; especially those first 2 cups.

  2. Just realized, left out photos of cute yellow and green kitty rice bowls I found, d'oh!

Alyssa: That thing is irresistibly cute! I'm looking for plate hangers at the thrift store so I can display it properly...

Miss Lou: I would love to find more of those. I've never found any beguiling (or clean!) enough to take home.

  3. Those kitty ones are too cute! Next week I planned on sharing the Japanese set I've inherited from my Grandma -- it's very pretty, but not as cute as yours...more vintage, is all. The top two cups of yours are my fave! :)

I collect thrift scarves and wear them as headbands...never intended to have a collection of them, it just happened. So many colors!!

  4. Oh, how cute! I brought back some funny glassware from a five and dime type store in Tokyo. They have pictures of fruits and vegetables, both with faces of course. And the glasses both read, "Vitamin your life." I think they're hilarious and was thrilled to find that they made the trip back in one piece!

  11. The first four- is it possible to find them online? They are sooooo cute. Sadly I don't have anything similar in my country. Not even close.
