The Healthy Skin Diet + 100% Natural Way to Stop a Breakout

Salmon on mixed greens with ground flaxseed, olive oil, and a squeeze of fresh lemon. Yum!

For nearly three years straight from age 22 to nearly 25 I had an off-and-on break out. I switched to natural products, I made my own concoctions, I even tried nothing (warm water, yep, super natural), but it never stayed away for long. I didn't have time to worry about it so I went on with my painfully busy lifestyle. That was what caused the breakout, I think. I was working start-up hours at the day job, putting more hours into creative work until I had no time to pause and take care of myself. The breakout was my body screaming for help!

Now, the clear skin from my high school years has returned! Late July I stopped to analyze the problem and consulted my thrifted library of books. I found a high antioxidant/omega 3 diet that was simple and painless, tried it, and my breakout completely cleared-up! No Doctors, Prescriptions, or Crazy Chemical Soaps needed!

- - - - The Three Day Jump Start - - - -

You should try this three-day breakout clearing jump-start diet. If you already have perfect skin, well, damn you. You'll look even more radiant! If you're battling a breakout, you will see a difference in three days, I promise you! If you stick close to it for a month like I did, your breakout may completely clear up like mine did!

Toast with Earth's Balance and marmite, oatmeal with black and blueberries, cranberry juice in water, spearmint and catnip tea. I made this for brunch yesterday. I still incorporate the healthy foods from this diet daily!

I read this Anti-inflammatory Diet in The Acne Prescription by Nicholas Perricone, M.D. I made a couple of minor adjustments that worked well for me.

WAKE UP
  • 8 ounces spring water
  • 1 shot of omega 3 oil or cod liver oil (Now lemon flavored, yum! Can be found at Whole Foods, any health food store, or online. Here's a flax blend for Vegans/Vegetarians. )
BREAKFAST
  • 2 egg omelet or 4- to 6-ounce piece of grilled or broiled salmon
  • 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal (not instant) topped with 1 tablespoon ground Flaxseed (find at health food store or online.)
  • 3-inch slice cantaloupe or 1/4 cup fresh berries (blueberries are especially good, put them on the oatmeal)
  • 8 ounces spring water
  • Green or black tea- NO SWEETENER!
 LUNCH
  • 4 to 6 ounces grilled salmon or sardines packed in olive oil
  • 2 cups romaine lettuce; dress with extra virgin olive oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice to taste
  • 2-inch slice cantaloupe and 1/4 cup fresh berries
  • 8 ounces spring water
MID-AFTERNOON SNACK
  • Apple
  • 6 ounces plain yogurt (not the fruity kind, plain Greek yogurt)
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 8 ounces spring water (minimum, more if desired)
DINNER
  • 4 to 6 ounces grilled salmon
  • 2 cups romaine lettuce; dress with extra virgin olive oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice to taste
  • 1/4 cup steamed vegetables (especially bright green vegetables, such as asparagus, broccoli, spinach)
  • 2-inch slice cantaloupe
  • 8 ounces spring water
BEFORE-BEDTIME SNACK
  • 2 ounces slice turkey breast
  • 1/4 cup blueberries
  • 3 or 4 pecans or almonds
  • 8 ounces spring water

By the way, shed a quick tear. For three days: no beer, sugar, or alcohol!

* If you're vegetarian or vegan, replace Salmon,Canned Sardines and/or eggs with an extra serving of ground flaxseeds and an extra shot of flaxseed derived omega oil. For any other meat or forbidden substance on the list, replace it with a different serving listed that you can eat.

Try it for three days, it works! You will notice a difference in your skin. You can go on longer if you'd like. Of course, this doesn't mean you have to eat like this forever if you want your skin to stay clear, but be more conscious of what you eat. Incorporate more vegetables, take omegas daily, and drink plenty of water.

Just be more balanced with your eating. I incorporate omegas, flaxseed, green tea, berries, and plenty of water into my diet every day. It's easy, inexpensive, and keeps me healthy inside and out!

Snapped a quick photo before publishing the post, skin's been clear since August! I'll go into detail in future posts.

Try this diet! Return in three days and let me know in the comments how it's worked for you; because believe me, it will work!

  3. I already incorporate some of these things into my diet, but, alas, I cannot eat the fish, never had a taste for it (it icky!!) :)
At 45 I still get the occasional break-out (typically around my period) and I also notice certain foods can bring it on. My beloved peanut butter and cashews being a couple of those! *sigh* Lori C

  4. Hey Lori, my mom's the same way. Even the smell of fish makes her sick. Sucks, because it's SO good for you!

Before your period try to avoid anything with added sugar. Eat lots of berries and take a shot of omega 3. That should help keep the break-out at bay.

  5. Hey, I have read it somewhere that drinking alcohol makes your skin glow and radiant. I am thinking of starting up with alcohol. I want a glowing radiant skin at any cost.

  7. Van, don't feed the troll...

No sweeteners???? That's like, 1/2 my dietary intake!! Seriously, I am trying to cut down on them, but the week before my period the pmdd kicks in and I. MUST. HAVE. SUGAR!!!! I'd hate to see what I was like without it (rawr!) So a pimple or two is ok if it keeps me from killing... Lori C :)

  9. Lori: Haha, I feel the SAAAAME way about alcohol. (Hey, I'm a writer!) So the troll has me all figured out :)

No really, no one try the alcohol thing, it dehydrates you and your skin and makes matters worse.

Dear Wallet: Thank you! And try it; I forgot to mention this diet clears up the super hard to get rid of cystic acne over time, too.
