Thrift Haul: The Monster St. Augustine Vintage Score

This weekend I thrifted up a storm, starting in St. Augustine on Saturday and ending with my favorite thrift haunts here in Jacksonville on Sunday. I found numerous delicious vintage books I can't wait to devour and so many vintage valuables to sell! It's going to be a little overwhelming cleaning, photographing, and writing descriptions for all of these finds, but I'm up for the challenge.

The final picture is a sign I noticed on the back fence of the Ramona Flea Market in Jacksonville. (The one next to it is silly me holding a huge stuffed animal a vendor gave me for free!) The sign resonated with me; I'm embarking on a brave new journey. I no longer work in a cubicle as a writer, I'm now a full-time freelancer! I've landed a side PR gig already and I'm eager to take on more, so contact me if you need a writer, online marketer or PR person. I'll be offering packages soon which I'll talk more about soon once they're fully developed.

Leaving my full time job is like an exorcism, it was the final thing holding me back. I just couldn't do it all anymore. Being a freelancer/antique reseller is going to be hard work, but gives me more time to develop my Brick & Mortar and improve on this blog! After years it will be surreal not setting my alarm clock in the morning, but I know I'll enjoy leaving The Man!

And if you're considering leaving your unfulfilling office job- I say, DO IT! Like the sign says, Be Brave!
Life's too short not to take risks and live for your dreams!

  23. Yay to more time! We should get together and brainstorm about the TC B&M more now that I too am unemployed. BTW, do not sell that panda - I must have it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Fenn: Indeed! Lemme make a bunch of money selling stuff first ;)

Jackie: Thank you! There's never a "good position to quit," you just have to go for it when you know you've outgrown the proverbial nest.

I'll write about this develop more later: but I put in 70+ hours of work a week to get where I'm at now in my creative career (55 at day job!). It ain't easy, but it's worth it!

  25. Danielle: Thank you, I'll need it!

Gypsygirl: Haha! Thank you! I'm just terribly unphotogenic and sometimes look much larger in photos ;) No dramatic weight-loss is happening.

  26. The Joyful Thrifter: If I haaad to pick a favorite...yeah, nevermind, me either? Maybe the cowboy lamp...

Oldskooljunk: Yes indeed, we shall meet! I'll hold it for you. I lost one of the mushroom earrings we traded for, maybe more trades are in order...

    Also, I wish I WAS unemployed. I have a W9 position already, so I don't get a break..or unemployment ;)

  35. Your story resonated with me. I, too, am trying to leave my cubicle, office monkey job, and am trying to become a freelance writer. And the antique re-seller ;0) You are amazing. And I really do love your "sign." I'd appreciate it if you could check out my blog, too, and see what I have up my sleeve. I'm totally going to be thinking about your post all night...I'm so jealous!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh, and I'll probably be thinking about it all day tomorrow at work while I'm hating every minute of being there, working for "the man." You are a brave girl!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Joy, Becky, Monogirl: Thank you!

Lesley: I spent at least a year preparing for my freelance life while working full time before I took the leap. I'll write more about it later, but there's never a "right" time even with lots of preparation. Believe in your abilities and do it ;)

  38. I am proud of you. I have been following your blog for about a year and love what you do. I left my day job with Lockheed Martin 10/17/2011 because I just couldn't take it anymore. It was soul crushing and an awful cubicle hell of red tape and bureaucracy. I followed my dreams of opening a vintage shop and opened Opidell's Antiques, Vintage, and Forget-Me-Nots in Lexington, KY on 9/15/2012. I am making absolutely no money right now, but have never been happier in my life.
