Thrift Haul: Some Things I Bought and Some Things I Left

I didn't thrift as hard as I'd planned to last week, instead spending time getting organized and settling into my new antique store booth. (More details on that later in the week!) With a new area of my house to fill with thrifted merchandise I can hunt with fervor this week.

The plaid Pullman case was found at the flea market for 75 cents. It has some damage, but it charmed it's way into my home anyway. Kitty is on standby to show you the scale of this monumental beast. I've been selling a lot of vintage suitcases to girls planning their weddings. They're using them to hold cards like my friend Nicole did at her thrifty vintage wedding.

More planters! My collection of these is getting out of hand. The little cub was my sole thrift store score for the week and after imagining the other two vintage planters filled with cacti and succulent I couldn't leave them behind.

Now here's all the things I could leave behind, despite their cries:

This catalog was being sold by the same person who offered the vintage luggage for 75 cents. She flipped through and showed me the exact pullman case design in the catalog. Amusing!

What did you find this weekend?

  1. Congrats on your new space and good luck power thrifting this week.

Also, psst - Nicole's link to the vintage wedding doesn't work. :( Would love to see! I recently picked up a couple of hard sided vintage cases and am searching for decorating ideas!

I wonder why it didn't work in the post? Hm...let me fix it.

      Thanks for letting me know!

  2. "Who cares if some kid pissed in me? Robots!" - Ha! I love the suitcase and your kitty too. Didn't find or get tempted by a single thing this weekend - which just goes to prove that I didn't leave the house. :)

    1. That's my first thought anytime I'm tempted to buy kid's sheets. I always want the Batman, Ninja Turtles, and Star Wars ones...

    2. Hot water, Oxyclean, vinegar!

Just think of a long narrow hallway lined with vintage character sheets...it would be like falling down a weird cartoon rabbit hole. LOL

    3. I do have a long, narrow hallway in my house, hmmm! I like the idea. I don't truly fear the pee-sheets, anything comes out with a good wash. I just fear becoming a sheet hoarder!

  3. I went thrifting this weekend, and left just about everything I wanted expect for a pair of shoes and scarf. I've learned that I can't buy everything everytime, and there's always going to be something to buy.

    1. That's the best part- there will -always- be more "junk" to buy. That's why I can't understand how people fight over things at the thrifts. Waste of time and energy.

    2. Because only THAT plaid goes with my hip line! Sheesh.

  4. I didn't go out at all this weekend because I went shopping on Thursday in Green Cove Springs and nabbed enough to last me for a month!! There was a gigantic moving/estate sale, so big it looked like a flea market in itself...and I couldn't say no to the prices...$5.00 for a pile. And then I went back on Friday to score more!! I had a blast!

  5. I don't know if I could have left behind the Star Wars sleeping bag.

I have been sick for a week and haven't been thrifting at ALL! Thanks for feeding the habit vicariously :)

  7. Maybe the magazine/catalogue was too pricey for $20, but since I have a soft spot for old ads, I would have bought it for $10. I LOVE that vintage suitcase. They're really becoming all the rage.

    1. She had two, one from the 60s and one from the 70s. I collect vintage ads too, but I've found some for pocket change. So I'll hold out 'til I find more for a buck ;)

  9. No vintage shopping this weekend, just plastic sleeve bags for my sewing patterns from More Fun Comics, a great comic book store.

    1. I need to scoop up plenty of sleeves for art prints too, great reminder. Using them to host sewing patterns is a genius idea!

  10. You're right, $20 was too much for the catalog esp if it's not that old (like from the 1940's or older)...your captions are so funny and entertaining!

I stopped at three GW this weekend and it seemed like everything was way more expensive than the cool vintage stuff I bought at a mini flea market on Saturday...go figure!

I'm getting a bit tired of the overpriced junk at the Thrift Stores lately, I might stop going to the chain ones. I might venture into the smaller ones that still charge old-fashioned thrift store prices. ;)
