Thrifted Collection: The Rainbow of Vintage Suitcases

I've seared your retinas with a hyperactive blitz of skittles-colored vintage suitcases...and this ain't all of them.  Today I'm the Pimp of Suitcases, I've gotta sell (e-mail me if you want one) these big beautiful bad boys and make room to bring in more.

As a summer-spirited wanderer I'm drawn to suitcases. It's not just their bold shapes, practicality, or double-use for storage that attracts me. I wonder where they've gone in their lives. I hope the people I sell them to take them out on adventures too. In the meantime, I've had fun loading them up with goodies for my own mini kitschy-tacky Florida road trips.

What do you do with your vintage suitcases? Storage? Decoration? What "vintage stories" are your favorites? Many people love postcards and photographs...

  2. You know what I think is cool about vintage suitcases? When they still have their owner's name on the ID tag. That may be really weird, but it is cool to think about who they are, where they went, etc. Especially when they look really old and are from my city. It's so fascinating!

  4. Will try again...I still have the red suitcase that my parents gave me when I was 10, to travel with my aunt and uncle to JFK's grave in 1963. It looks like the blue one, though it has a key. It currently holds folding carry on bags and a much newer, L.L. Bean toiletry bag.
It is sobering that items from my life are now becoming collectable. I, however, am drawn to items that are older than I am, because that is where the fascination lies. Funny, isn't it?

    1. I wish I still had any childhood suitcase. Come to think of it I think I just used tote bags with cartoon characters on them. Those might still be in the attic...hmmm

Forgot to mention a lot of the suitcases pictured came with their keys, too.

  6. I have that tan Samsonite in slate blue and forest green but I do not have it in...sigh....tan. LOL! God, I'm such a sucker for vintage suitcases. I've actually told myself I'm no longer allowed to buy them. I use them as purses or to store fabric and craft supplies (and ofcourse to haul band gear to shows, or pack for vacay) but I just can't justify buying more just for myself. Must...try...to control...urges....

PS, I love how your precious kitty is mid-action in the last photo. She adds the perfect white color compliment to all of your primary picks....lol!
