Thrift Share Monday: Whimsical Vintage Fun

A little bit of weekend yard sale hopping provided me with delicious brassy vintage bits.

The Vintage Brass Boats (two additional tiny ones not pictured), Brass Seagulls (pictured below), Desk Ornament, and Clay Pot were sold to me for $5 total. The large picnic basket was .50 cents and the smaller one was .25 cents.

I'll enjoy seeing these whimsical seagulls in flight in my dining room until they find their new home. The clay pot bellow was made by the elderly gentlemen throwing the yard sale when he was in grade school.

I found this beautiful "Bento Box" (it'll be used as one, anyway) at an antique store for $4.50. Glad to find this because I'm addicted to Bento Boxes yet hold back because they're so expensive.

I wrote about this beautiful sad creature here. I ended up going back for him at an antique store. He now sits on my desk. Where I look at him, and he looks at me, and I look at him looking at me looking at him...

I think he's sad because of the other item I found at the antique store...

Initially enamored by the beautiful graphic design and green wood grain background, what made me seize this $2 pamphlet was the text, "to their destiny in pure Italian olive oil...BERTOLLI" There's something so macabre about the stoic fish swimming straight into their doom. Or the implication that their destiny since hatching from their eggs was to meet the boiling oil in my frying pan. Sorry, my fish-friends. It's your own fault for being delicious.

The final fun find is this "office toy". It's solid, masculine, and plain damn fun to spin. I love the sliver of color the red arrow adds. I might give it to my boss for Christmas but I'm worried he'll have too much fun with it. And I don't want to be blamed for the causalities...

  3. hi Van
my son has a thing for seagulls - he would of bought those too but would probably spray paint them black.

the office toy is funny - I would have a hard time parting with it.

  6. Hey Van! Thanks so much for visiting my blog and becoming a new follower. I'm glad you dig the bathroom :) I am extremely jealous that you found those two cute picnic baskets! I want one so badly, but the only places I see them are at Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma. Not in the budget. argh...
